History
Five Mile Creek was worked during the initial rush but was never as productive as the Arrow or Shotover. Today it's valued more for recreation than serious prospecting, though patient panners still find colour.
Best Spots to Try

Local Tips
Great spot to teach kids panning basics — the water is gentle and there's always some fine gold to find. Don't expect nuggets here. The swimming holes make it a nice day out even if prospecting is slow.
