0.5km southwest of Ross. The most well-equipped site with a visitor centre, walking tracks, and interpretation panels.
History
Ross was one of the richest alluvial goldfields in New Zealand. The famous 'Honourable Roddy' nugget (99.3 oz) was found nearby in 1909 — one of the largest nuggets ever discovered in NZ. A replica is in the visitor centre.

Local Tips
Visit the Ross Goldfields Heritage Centre first — it's excellent and free. The designated fossicking area is small but productive. This is a great 'introduction' spot for beginners. The walkway explains historic mining techniques.
